Using Chat GPT to write my last 5 years of work experience

It’s been over 5 years since I had to update my Resume. I was working at Google and honestly I thought that I would never have to apply for another external job because I was planning on doing different roles and projects at Google. Well, that didn’t happen.

So instead of having to sit down and update my resume with 5 years of work experience, I decided to outsource it to Chat GPT

I requested my performance evaluation reports from Google and the main document I used for collecting and drafting my performance evaluations (for PERF & GRAD). I lightly went through it and pulled out the larger projects into a new doc (of course I didn’t include any proprietary content). I then went and found Google’s Developer Relations Engineer job description.

In Chat GPT , I gave it the Google’s Developer Relations Engineer job description and gave it my “work experience” which were the larger projects. Then I asked it to “Create a 10 bullet point list for a resume section that uses action verbs and key works in the tech industry. Use the Google’s Developer Relations Engineer job description that I gave you and my work experience.”

It came up with solid suggestions. Since a lot of my work was similar, I grouped items like writing blogs, producing videos, open sourcing code samples and creating codelabs. I pulled those items out and tried the process again. Then I got a much better outcome. I selected the bullet points that were the best.

I’ve since edited and refined my resume. It was wonderful to be able to use Chat GPT to synthesize pages of performance evaluation content. Below are some of bullets points I got and here is my full resume.
